According to the Department of Transport, in 2017 there were 23,805 pedestrian accidents with vehicles on Britain’s roads.

Types of pedestrian accident?

Road users have a duty of care to pedestrians, including giving them right of way.

Even driving at low speeds can cause significant injury to those travelling on foot.

Accidents we’ve dealt with have included:

  • Pedestrian hit by a motorcycle.
  • Injured by a car or van reversing without paying attention.
  • A car failing to stop at a zebra crossing.
  • A cyclist knocking over a pedestrian while riding on the pavement.
  • A driver failing to stop for a lollipop person showing children across the road to school.
  • Hit-and-run accidents.
  • Drivers going through red lights.

Walkers are very vulnerable, particularly children, and courts are likely to come down hard on drivers who fail to observe the safety of other road users.

When can you make a pedestrian accident compensation claim?

If you have suffered an injury within the last three years, and it was due to the negligent action of another person.

More about making a claim

How can First4Lawyers help?

There are some grey areas when it comes to pedestrians, such as if you were to walk out in front of a car.

Speaking to our road accident solicitors will give you accurate and trustworthy advice, helping you to understand whether you have a claim, how the process works and how we can help you achieve maximum compensation.  We also offer a No Win No Fee* service, which our solicitors can tell you about.

How much compensation will I receive for a pedestrian accident claim?

This is always a difficult question to answer because it depends on the severity of your injuries, and the circumstances of the accident.

To give general examples, if you suffered a broken leg from which a full recovery is expected, you could be awarded between £7,900 and £12,350.  A minor head injury tends to achieve from £1,940 to £11,200.

Our compensation calculator can give you an idea of the figures.

Is there a time limit for making a claim?

There is usually a three-year period, from the date of the accident.
