Located in Huddersfield town centre, we are conveniently located close to the motorway network and within walking distance of the railway station meaning we are within easy commuting distance of Leeds, Wakefield, Sheffield, Bradford, Dewsbury, Halifax and Manchester.

About the Role

The Senior Legal Practitioner will be responsible for the handling of a caseload of predominantly Out of Portal Multi Track, complex MOJ Portal and Fast Track claims.

They will also be responsible for the direct supervision of the work undertaken by the Out of Portal team on a day-to-day basis along with managing the team members including 1-2-1, their caseloads, tasks and outstanding diaries along with monitoring the team’s performance acting as a referral point for enquiries.

In addition, they will support with the supervision of Portal claims by reviewing key milestones of the claim and providing the managerial oversight. 

The Senior Legal Practitioner will work with the Head of Legal Practice to ensure that all supervisory, risk management and SRA Code of Conduct requirements are achieved whilst providing industry leading standards of customer care.  The Senior Legal Practitioner will also work with the Operations Manager looking for ways to improve operating systems, processes and best practices. 

Responsibilities

  • Deal with a mixed caseload of Out of Portal multi track, Out of Portal fast track and complex portal claims from inception to settlement. Able to competently handle a caseload of complex, Fast Track and Multi Track claims
  • Direct and supervise all key case management actions and milestones
  • Monitor performance to ensure that all agreed targets/KPIs are met
  • Review and monitor MI, identifying and resolving performance issues
  • Review and approve key claim activities of the Out of Portal team from inception through to a conclusion
  • Support with the supervision of Portal claims by reviewing key milestones of the claim and providing the supervisory oversight
  • Conduct monthly 1-2-1s with all members of the team creating performance improvement plans where required. Complete end of year appraisal reviews
  • Provide technical guidance and deal with all technical referrals from the Team
  • Undertake case clinics to problem solve and progress outstanding issues on claims
  • Work with the Head of Legal Practice to ensure that all compliance and risk management policies are achieved
  • Work in conjunction with the Operations Manager to improve systems, processes and best practice
  • Provide feedback and embed best practice initiatives
  • Have a high level of quality and attention to detail
  • Have a clear understanding of the processing of low value volume RTA cases, pre and post Civil Liability Act
  • Provide training and mentoring to the Fee Earners and Claims Assistants
  • Be able to competently deal with court applications, witness statements, Precedent H, complying with Court directions, instructions to Counsel along with drafting and preparing Court Trial bundles

Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified solicitor or Fellow of CILEX ideally with a minimum of 3 years PQE
  • Experience of working with Eclipse Proclaim Management Software
  • Previous experience of working within a fast-paced Personal Injury law firm is essential
  • Previous experience and knowledge of the RTA Portal and Protocols
  • Experience of dealing with Fast and Multi Track claims
  • Previous experience of supervision of technical claims
  • The ability to work well under pressure and towards tight deadlines
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Highly numerate
  • Ability to work to a high level of accuracy with an eye for detail
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • The ability to communicate professionally at all levels within the firm
  • Good time keeper
  • A good team player, but also the ability to work on own initiative
  • Flexible approach to work
